Labor Day weekend: four days of flying fun at Yinzer Glide

The club is gearing up for its annual Yinzer Glide event: four days of soaring on Labor Day weekend, beginning Friday September 2nd.

The club's world-famous glider pilots will compete in local cross-country soaring (farther, faster, longer!), with weather and task briefings in the morning. Barbecues and cool drinks after flying in the evening, with some members staying over-night in tents to get an early start.

Regular instruction as well as demonstration rides for anyone who isn't a member yet and would like to see what it's like to soar with the birds. More information is available on this website.

Getting Ready

In spite of a few complications, we made some headway towards getting our fleet ready for the 2011 flying season.

The hanger is cleaned out, the 1-26 is rigged and the tow plane will hopefully get it's annual done this week.

New Officers for 2011

At the Annual Meeting on March 26th new officers were elected for the 2011 season.

The new officers are as follows:

President: Lyle Chamberlin

Vice President: Dave Reitter

Treasurer: Steve Boehmer

Secretary: Mark Wilson

Congratulations!!!

We also had a moment of appreciation for two of our retiring members, Dave Boehmer Sr. and Leo Miltenberger.

Dave and Leo have been active members since the late 1960s and they both have worked tirelessly to keep the Pittsburgh Soaring Club alive.

It was nice to be able to show both of them how much we appreciated their unending dedication to making our club what it is today.

Thanks again to Dave and Leo.

Cumberland Outing Nov. 3-14, 2010

A good time was had by 13 Pittsburgh Soaring Club members during an outing to the Cumberland Soaring Club's home. Thanks to all who made this possible.

Jim Rosenkranz, Private Pilot!!!

2010 Flying Season off to a Great Start

Opening Day 2010 at Bandel dawned warm and breezy.

There was a good turnout of willing workers to get all the planes ready for the 2010 Soaring season.

With the help of pre-work on Friday, everything was done in record time!

The first tow was underway around 11:00 and by noon, Joel was current (had his 3 tows and landings).

Unfortunately, the wind kicked up and put a damper on the first flight schedule but at least 4 or 5 members got their first flight in with Joel.

Tom Stewart - Private Pilot!!

On Saturday, August 15, 2009, Tom Stewart finally got everything together and was able to take his Private Pilot Checkride.

Saturday was sunny, cold and windy, but everyone pitched in and got gliders ready to go. Plans are for flying to begin Sunday afternoon, April 5.
