Al Bennett

Al Bennett soloed a Taylorcraft in Mexico when he was 11 years old and has been flying ever since. He soloed in the US on his 16th birthday, got his private at 17 and his commercial at 18. He has lived and flown in Hawaii, the Philippines and in his work for the California State Library in Sacramento, from which he retired in 2001.

Al transitioned to gliders in 1971 and got his Certified Flight Instructor-Glider under the instruction of Tom Knauff in 1981 to teach his own kids to fly. He instructed at VacAero in California, and flew his own Duster in northern California until moving with his wife, Linda, to the South Hills of Pittsburgh.

Joel Hough

Joel Hough had his first glider flight when he was 14 at the Pittsburgh Soaring Club and earned his glider flight instructor license in 1994. He has soared in Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Michigan, Arizona, Washington, and Florida. Enjoys flying with red tail hawks, turkey vultures, butterflies, and chimney swifts.
